The officer, was stabbed while conducting a business check in the area of Broadway and Chestnut Street in Camden, the Camden County Prosecutor's Office said. He was transported to a nearby hospital and is currently in critical, but stable condition, authorities said.
Richard Dennis was apprehended soon after in the area of South 7th Street and Kaighn Avenue, authorities said. He was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and multiple weapons offenses. He remains held pending a detention hearing, authorities said.
According to NBC 10, the officer is 28-year-old military veteran who has been with the Camden County Police Department for two years.
This is the second tragedy in days for Camden County police community. On Friday, Feb. 21, area native Christopher Reese and his partner were killed by a gunman during a routine traffic stop in Virginia. Reese's father was a former Camden City police officer, as reported by Daily Voice.
